Jazz It Up at the Governor’s Island Lawn Party This Weekend

Governor’s Island is hosting its 14th annual Jazz Age Lawn Party this Saturday and Sunday, June 15 & 16, from 12-6pm. Travel back in time to the 20s as you board the ferry with other flappers and dappers to be a part of the rebellious Jazz Age, without the pesky Prohibition. The 2019 theme is “Countdown to the Twenties,” the final year before this impactful era celebrates its centennial. Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra will play 1920s dance music. Get inspired by the 10-woman Dreamland Follies dancers, and join the dance lessons to learn the Charleston and other ’20s favorites. Not a groover? Lawn games, a motorcar exhibition, and vintage retailers will keep you intrigued.

Bring a blanket to sit on and cash for drinks. I mean, really. You couldn’t throw down plastic in the ’20s. The first credit card wasn’t introduced ’til 1950.

Ticket prices range from $40-$170, with the “Bonnie & Clyde” tickets coming with souvenirs, throwback photos, and VIP perks. And trust us–you’ll want to dress up! Can’t make it this weekend? There will be a repeat August 24 & 25.
