As New Yorkers, we know better than anybody how this city works–with people helping people. Therefore it should be no surprise that after the consumer gluttony of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, our city gave birth to Giving Tuesday.
In 2012, the 92nd Street Y partnered with the United Nations Foundation to introduce the opportunity to give back. Thanks to social media, Giving Tuesday went viral almost immediately. Now, in its seventh year, companies around the world match donations to raise of $300 million for charities.
Celebrate the charitable side of the holiday season today, and then spread the word on social with #GivingTuesday.
